Creative Director


Flow Video is seeking a Creative Director to join our growing creative video agency. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Creative Director oversees the creative development and execution of our short film product from concept to final cut. The ideal candidate is well-versed in all aspects of film production and understands how to translate a client's vision into a polished live action, animated, or mixed-media short video. Supremely-organized and quick-moving, this person is able to navigate multiple projects concurrently and collaborate with writers, editors, animators, cinematographers, and our producer team handling logistics and account management to ensure a streamlined and joyful experience for our clients and teammates.

This is a full-time, hybrid position based in the metro Detroit area. COVID-19 vaccination required.


  • 10+ years experience in video, media, communications, journalism or a related field
  • Experience with a diverse set of clients, from Fortune 500 corporations to one-person startup, to large product-driven companies to small non-profit organizations
  • Experience managing a team of creatives in diverse roles
  • Experience with on-set video production pipelines; ability to direct video shoots and work with production crew members
  • Strong competency in a variety of creative digital media tools, particularly in the Adobe Cloud Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Audition, etc)
  • Proficiency in Google Suite of apps
  • Strong production, editorial, and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Confidence to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to build relationships that increase trust and grow business
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, including both creative and business writing experience
  • Uncanny ability to follow up and follow through, leaving no thread behind
  • Willingness to learn copiously, fail fast, and constantly improve

  • Manage client relationships thoughtfully and responsively
  • Lead the pre-production “discovery process” with clients in initial concept meetings to learn about their creative needs.
  • Create proposals and roadmaps that illustrate a clear outline of the project for the client to follow, and provide examples of work to demonstrate capabilities and creative vision
  • Recognize opportunities to add value to clients’ existing scope of work and execute on strategies to win the business
  • Lead a team of creatives, both direct reports of full time internal employees, as well as outsourced freelancers, to execute on creative visions
  • Execute on a range of production and post-production capabilities
  • Video story proposals and outlining
  • Video script writing
  • Interview / documentary video storytelling frameworks
  • Video / photo editing
  • Company branding and marketing
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with tight deadlines
  • Direct and assist with video shoots and in areas of production (ie. audio, filming, lighting) when necessary.
  • Develop internal marketing and creative strategies to promote the company and gain new business
  • Outwardly promote the company as a Flow Video ambassador

Compensation & Benefits

  • $70,000-$85,000 annually, depending on experience
